It’s actually been pretty rainy in SoCal.
I know– I’m just as shocked as you are. I don’t mind the rain…especially when it’s during the work week! Due to my lack of weather machine, the gloomy weather sometimes falls on a weekend—womp. However, just because it’s gross and damp outside, doesn’t mean your day is totally wasted. I like to look for the positives in rainy weather and pull out my go-to list of rainy day activities.
If you’re looking for some great rainy day activities, you’ve come to the right place, my beautiful friends. Here is my list of 22 rainy day activities for twenty-somethings. Have yourself a read and make the best of your sh*t weather!
22 Rainy Day Activities for Twenty-Somethings:
1. Have a Movie Marathon
Movie marathons rock. Since they do require a lot of our time, there’s no better time to get started like a cold and rainy day. If you’re not up for a movie, give a new show a binge. I’ve recently started New Girl and I’m really starting to get into it. It’s so funny!
2. Do a Puzzle
An oldie but goodie. Get together with friends or a significant other and put together a puzzle…wine in hand of course.
3. Startup/Work on your Blog
If you haven’t started a blog, you really should consider it! I’m about 9 months in and it’s totally changed my life! As cheesy as it sounds, it’s totally true…I love having this hobby. It gives me a space to share my thoughts, and actually really helps me out mentally…which I totally didn’t expect.
Find what makes you tick and get writing. There are blogs and audiences alike out there on the web who will appreciate your voice and your content.
If you don’t want your ideas and thoughts on display, consider taking up something more personal like journaling. Pinterest is loaded with journal tips, prompts and ideas to get you #inspired.
4. Create a Shopping Wish List
Just because you’re broke (hey, same, it’s fine) doesn’t mean you can’t put together a sweet wish list. Go to your favorite websites and add all your fave items to your cart or wish list. Pretending is still fun. 😉
The best part about creating a wish list is NO BUDGET! Shop on the bougiest of sites, and find your favorite clothing, accessories, etc. for your ~*Dream Closet*~.
5. Bake a Dessert
Treat yo self on this gloomy rainy day to sunshine via a sugary magical dessert. Bake some cupcakes or brownies to have during your movie marathon extravaganza.
If you’re feeling extra bold, make one of those awesome desserts you’ve found on Pinterest but never had the time or ingredients to actually make.
6. Crochet/Knit up a New Project
Where are my crafters at?! Cozy up under a blanket, kick back in your pajamas and learn a new crochet or knit project.
Don’t know how? check out Youtube. That’s how I learned everything I needed to know about the crafts…you can seriously learn anything from Youtube.
7. Read a Good Book
I’ll admit I’m not much of a reader, but I love getting lost in a book…I guess it’s the whole getting started that’s the hardest part.
Finding and reading a good book is perfect for your rainy day activities list. Make some coffee, find a spot with good lighting and get ready to get lost in a story.
8. Attend a Yoga Class
If you’re down to venture out into the rain, by all means, have yourself a great yoga session at your nearest studio.
If you just want to stay home (which would 99.9% be me), attend a virtual yoga class, or look up a yoga video and get on your mat! I love the Yoga With Adriene videos. She has a yoga video for all moods, feelings, goals etc…and her voice is just SO soothing. If you’re looking for something more fast-paced, check out a 10-minute abs video. Any at home workout is a great idea to get up and get the blood flowing.
Youtube is also a great resource to learn mindfulness, and other meditation techniques. Any rainy day spent working on self-care is a day not wasted.
9. Get Ahead on Career Development
Yeah, I know. Not the most mind-numbing on my list of rainy day activities, but it DOES feel good to be productive, even if the weather is complete crap.
As someone who has been constantly applying to jobs for the past few months, there are always things you can do to improve your position in your career.
Update your LinkedIn page, or make some formatting changes to your resume. If you’re on the job hunt, reconnect with past co-workers, or just keep sending in those applications.
10. Purge Your Closet
I have a smaller closet than most of my friends, and I still find that I don’t wear half of the items I own. “Spring clean” your closet on a rainy day and really decide if you will wear the things you own.
I know that coming from a college town, I have a LOT of going-out clothes that no longer leave my hangers. Find a way to repurpose your old items, or simply donate what you don’t wear to charity.
11. Organize Your Planner
I LOVE getting organized in my planner. I’m guilty of not always staying on top of it, so getting’ yo shit together and getting organized is perfect on your list of rainy day activities.
12. Play a Video Game
Did anyone else love playing The Sims or Rollercoaster Tycoon Growing up? Those games were (and still kinda are) my SHIT. They’re so fun and I could actually play them for hours.
What’s actually super cool is that now a lot of games can be downloaded, so you don’t even need to go to the store to pick them up! PSA you can download Rollercoaster Tycoon off of Amazon for TEN BUCKS.
13. Edit Photos
I could actually spend hours on hours editing pictures. Try out different filters, exposures and saturation levels. Your [photo editing app/software] is your oyster.
14. Explore a Local Museum
Immerse yourself in art and culture by walking around a museum near you. Smaller ones are usually free, and just as cool. Sites like Great Museums, allow you to find one semi-close to you. Of course, there’s also Yelp!
15. Pin til’ you Drop
Pinterest for me was love at first site. Since I first created my personal account in 2012 (?), The site has made so many changes and grown tremendously…but in a great way. So many people share their amazing content, and it constantly keeps me up-to-date and inspired on all the prettiest makeup looks, the best products and of course, life tips.
One of my favorite rainy day activities is to get lost in the Pinterest sauce and just keep pinning, pinning, pinning (Finding Nemo reference OBV).
P.S You should totes follow me @theinspirationcove (not to be bias but I pin some good shit).
16. Design an At Home Spa Day
Moisturize your skin, give yourself a mani-pedi, paying special attention to the places where you need the most love. Face masks are all the rage…and tbh I’ve been DYING to explore them so if you have any suggestions comment them below! Light some candles and get to self-pampering.
17. Create a New Playlist
One of the most underrated rainy day activities is definitely discovering new music and creating an awesome playlist.
I have discovered so many tasty jams recently and created a great (bias cause I made it lol) playlist on Spotify called Summertime Vibes. It gets me SO excited for summer nights, warmer weather and lots of sunshine.
18. Clean Out Your Car
I would only recommend doing this if your car is in a garage of sorts. Otherwise, it’s a terrible idea for a rainy day activity lmao.
Unlike my bedroom, I’m the worst at staying on top of my Jeep’s cleanliness status. It can quickly fill up with straw wrappers, and old Dunkin Cups (I can’t stop drinking the GirlScout thin mint iced coffee), so staying on top of your mess will always make you feel more organized.
19. Drink some Wine with the Ladiez
I mean this is kinda a given for a list of rainy day activities. Invite your friends over for a miniature wine tasting event. Have friends each bring a different bottle of wine, and you can all taste test while catching up.
If you’re feeling extra fancy, create a charcuterie board or plate with a layout of amazing cheeses, crackers, meats and more. No need to dress up, make it a rainy day wino pajama/sweats party!!
20. Order in Food
Stay in and order yourself a pizza or Chinese delivery. No need to disrupt your movie marathon to make dinner!
21. Test Out a New Makeup Look
I love, love, LOVE doing my makeup, but I always get super nervous to try something new (especially with eyeshadow) right before I go out. A rainy day is a perfect opportunity to try out a new look that you’ve seen via Instagram beauty bloggers. If you mess up, it’s no big deal because you’re not going out anywhere.
Practice makes perfect, and I’m definitely starting to realize that when it comes to makeup application.
22. Explore a Local Coffee Shop.
If you don’t mind going for a drive, find a new hole-in-the-wall coffee shop or bakery to try.
Indulge in something sweet and/or savory and support your local businesses instead of hitting up a Starbucks that’s right around the corner. Nothing but good vibes, latte art, and smooth jazz to warm you up on a rainy day.
Rainy days are usually inevitable [depending on your climate, duh]. I love the cloudy weather, rainy day vibes. They’re a great excuse to give yourself some much-needed TLC and to cross off some things on your rainy day activities list. What are your favorite ways to spend a rainy day?
